Indian Effigy Mounds of Wisconsin with Bob Birmingham

6:00 PM - 7:30 PM
Manitowoc Public Library
Balkansky Community Room AB

Event Details

More ancient Native American mounds were built in Wisconsin than in any other region of North America―an astonishing 15 to 20,000, of which 4,000+ remain. Most impressive are the effigy mounds—huge earthwork sculptures shaped like thunderbirds, water panthers, and more. Please join us for author and archeologist Robert Birmingham’s presentation on these historic, sacred places.

Robert A. Birmingham is the author of Spirits of Earth: The Effigy Mound Landscape of Madison and the Four Lakes and the coauthor of Aztalan: Mysteries of an Ancient Indian Town. Now retired, he served as the state archaeologist of Wisconsin for many years and received the Increase Lapham Research Medal from the Wisconsin Archeological Society.
